Diego Liberati, born in Italy, started playing the cello at the age of eight under the guidance of Marek Kruszczynski.
In the following years his teachers will be, among others, Anna Maria Mastromatteo, B. Baraz, A. Noferini, F. Pepicelli, R. Filippini, G. Shultis, Ostertag, Goritzki and Wispelwey for the study of the cello and R.Zanettovich and P.Farulli for chamber music.
He was selected to be the solo cello of the Italian Youth Orchestra (OGI) in 2001 and has worked and collaborated as principal cello with several orchestras after that.
After attending the class of Professor P. Hoerr at the Hochschule der Kunste of Bern and obtaining his Konzertdiplom “with distinction”, Diego successfully auditions for the Solistendiplom, a very selective course aimed to pursue the highest degree of technical and musical capability.
In 2008 Diego completed the Solistendiplom course, under the guidance of Professor Louise Hopkins.
Diego is also a passionate teacher and as such, he is regularly invited to various camps in Italy.
Chamber music is Diego’s life love, together with his two daughters, of course.
Diego has been the fixed leader of cello section of the Orquestra do Norte, Portugal until 2010, when he joined the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra, now Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
