Katy made her concerto debut performing Lalo’s Symphony Espagnole in Birmingham’s Adrian Boult Hall aged ten. She has since performed as soloist with numerous orchestras including the European Union Chamber Orchestra, as well as with the New English Concert Orchestra under Douglas Coombes MBE at the Battle Proms series to audiences of up to 10,000.
She has won several competitions and appeared on national television as strings finalist of BBC Young Musician of the Year.
Performing with orchestras, particularly Romantic concertos such as those by Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Glazunov and Mendelssohn, has always been Katy’s biggest passion. More recently she has become interested in the development of the bow and how it might impact her interpretation of different repertoire.
Katy will explore this in a recital at the Royal Academy of Music, playing each piece with a different bow from the relevant time period.
Katy started studying with Berent Korfker at the Yehudi Menuhin School, then Royal College of Music where she was supported by the Richard Carne Charitable Trust, Seary Trust and Martin Musical Scholarship Foundation. In 2019 she started an Advanced Diploma in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with György Pauk.
Katy has taken part in masterclasses with Zakhar Bron, Zvi Zeitlin, Robert Masters, Nicola Benedetti, Shmuel Ashkenasi and Miriam Fried. She plays on a fine 18th century English violin made by Nathaniel Cross and is generously sponsored by Pirastro.
